Assimilated Formalism

by Mikheal Deans

Assimilated Formalism is the representation of your own understanding and new ideas through line, shape, texture, form, space, color and gestural marks.

Assimilated Formalism, a unique artistic expression that revolves around the treatment of lines. Deans’ masterfully manipulates these lines to convey diverse meanings and evoke a wide spectrum of emotions. Each stroke becomes a conduit for hidden narratives, allowing the artist to transcend mere representation and delve into the depths of human experience. In this Jamaican-born art form, lines cease to be mere delineations; they become vessels of movement, depth, and life. Deans infuses them with purpose, creating curves and shapes that extend beyond the canvas. These lines pulse with vitality, almost as if they possess their own consciousness. Traditionally, Jamaican artists have adhered to realism, but Deans courageously breaks away from this tradition. Assimilated formalism embraces a Jamaican interpretation of romanticism—one characterized by raw emotion and individualism. It’s a departure from the familiar, a leap into uncharted territory where lines dance, twist, and whisper secrets.
